PACS Feasibility Study
Every PACS project we undertake begins with
a survey of the different departments that will be
affected by PACS. For facilities that are unsure of when
or how to proceed with PACS, we formalize this survey
process by conducting a PACS Feasibility Study. This
study, also known as an assessment and evaluation,
provides you with a solid understanding of both the
financial and operational impact PACS will have on your
facility. The following lists some of the areas from
which we gather information:
Existing medical imaging equipment |
Existing HIS/RIS, if any |
Current network |
Remote
locations, if any |
Current exam volume and projected exam growth |
Off-site storage costs |
Goals
and concerns of key stakeholders |
This information provides us with an
understanding of your facility’s specific and unique
needs. We take this information and build you a
site-specific PACS diagram and provide an outline on how
PACS will impact your operations. The results of this
study will give you an overview of where your facility
stands with regard to PACS readiness and what is needed to
get you started on your PACS project. A successful PACS
implementation begins by tailoring the PACS project to the
facility. This is why our report focuses on the needs of
your facility.

Selecting and Implementing PACS
Most PACS projects fail due to the lack of
an established plan for the project. The first thing that
The Thomas Group would provide to you as your PACS
consultant is a set of deliverables that provides a
Strategic Work Plan. This Strategic Work Plan outlines
each of the key steps that needs to be addressed and
completed in order for a successful PACS implementation.
It also provides us a tool to successfully monitor your
PACS project from beginning to end. The following list
demonstrates just a few of the elements of the Strategic
Work Plan that The Thomas Group will handle for you as
your consultant:
Interview principal participants |
Develop a PACS project timeline |
Identify facility, RIS and teleradiology
requirements |
Develop system diagrams |
Provide technical evaluation through the RFP process |
Assess
financial considerations for board approval |
Negotiate the best possible agreement with vendor of
choice |

a marketing strategy for referring physicians |

The Thomas Group’s PACS consulting

Purchasing a RIS/PACS
We not only assist our clients in the
purchase of standalone PACS; we also can assist in the
purchase of a RIS/PACS. The process and deliverables
closely follow that for the selection and purchase of the
standalone PACS. Depending on the desired outcome by the
client, we will facilitate as much of the project as the
client’s facility requires.

Post-PACS Efficiency Evaluation
Our Efficiency Evaluation is a good tool to
utilize if you have implemented PACS and are interested in
determining how efficient your PACS is, as compared to
other PACS implementations, or if you want to evaluate any
ways there may be to improve your PACS efficiency.

Voice Recognition Consulting
As facilities move away from digital
dictation and towards voice dictation technology,
facilities have brought us in to ensure that they purchase
the system that best meets their needs. In response, we
developed a consulting program in which we:
Help clients
design and purchase the voice recognition system
that best meets their needs |
Ensure the
solution is able to integrate to PACS currently or
in the future |
Negotiate with the
voice recognition vendor(s) |
